Tragedy was recorded yesterday in Agudama-Epie community in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, when a 12-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself. The identity of the girl was not confirmed as at the time of filing this report. Investigation by our correspondent, however,revealed that the deceased was reportedly
beaten by her parents for stealing N50 in their home. Indigenes of the community are still in shock over the incident as they wondered why the
girl should take such action. It was learnt that the girl may have resolved
to take her own life because of the shame of having to face her peers in the community. Efforts to reach the bereaved parents were unsuccessful as they were said to be indisposed.
When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state, Alex Akhigbe,confirmed the incident, saying that investigation was ongoing in the matter. Akhigbe said the police was also investigating the murder case of a lady who was beaten to death by unidentifiedb persons in Kaiama in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area
of the state. The police image maker said efforts are being intensified to arrest the offenders and ensure that they are prosecuted.
